WIO Wood-Isengard

Isengard pays tribute to the epic spirit of the ancient forest guardians from The Lord of the Rings. Shaped like a solitary Ent or an entire root-entwined forest, this monumental wood boasts a powerful trunk form and an impressive, dense root system-perfect for scapes that feel mythical, grounded, and eternal.

With each piece sold by weight, Isengard varies in form-some resemble lone standing giants, others miniature forests, ready to dominate your scape with character and story. The extensive root base brings visual mass, anchoring, and a dramatic floor-covering presence, making it ideal for large aquariums, terrariums, and paludariums where storytelling and atmosphere are key.

The WIO difference: Isengard Ent is individually selected, epic in scale, and naturally aged-each piece is a centerpiece of mythic proportion.

    Preparation and Handling Precautions

    • Curing Required: Isengard must be cured before aquatic use to ensure optimal water quality.
    • Basic Curing (for large display tanks):
      - Soak in warm water for 24–48 hours due to size.
      - Rinse thoroughly before placing in layout.
    • Intensive Curing (for aquariums with fish/inverts):
      - Boil in sections if possible, or soak in hot water and replace daily until tannins reduce.
      - Full water saturation may take several weeks depending on wood density.
    • Gradual Introduction: Especially important in aquariums-start with one structure and monitor.

    Initial Buoyancy

    • Large pieces may float initially. Pre-soak extensively or secure with WIO ScapeGlue Kits, stones, or substrate anchoring until fully waterlogged.

    Natural Organic Material

    • Expect strong variation in form-no two Ents are alike. Some upright, some sprawling-each one a character of its own.

    Water Monitoring

    • Tannin release is likely, especially from the root mass.
    • Maintain kH ≥ 3 to buffer and stabilize pH.
    • Test pH, kH, and gH weekly during the initial stages.
    • Perform partial water changes as needed and use activated carbon to manage tint if desired.
    • Biofilm or saprolegnia may appear early-this is natural and will fade with time or can be removed manually.

    Placement

    • Anchor Your Story: Use Isengard as the central element in large tanks to evoke flooded forests, ancient riverbeds, or fantasy realms.
    • Arrange with rising trunks and exposed roots for vertical drama and depth.
    • Surround with mosses, ferns, or epiphytes to enhance the aged, mythical forest effect.
